If you haven’t bowled before you may find the video below a useful introduction to playing lawn bowls:
If you are new to lawn bowls you can Contact Us for a free taster session. You will just need flat soled shoes or trainers to access the green. We have bowls available for you to have a go and friendly, experienced members to help guide you on the green. We also offer Coaching sessions for new bowlers.
It’s normal to feel slightly apprehensive about starting something new, but bowls is a sport that is very easy to take up. The rules of the game are relatively simple, the basic technique isn’t complex and you don’t need lots of new kit.
There are many benefits of playing bowls outdoors:
- Enhanced fitness levels
- Mental wellbeing – mood boosting and can relieve tension/stress
- Improved balance and coordination
- Improved confidence and concentration
- Sense of achievement
- Fresh air and sunshine (not always guaranteed!)
Some of our members play casually for a bit of fun whilst others enjoy playing in local leagues and competitions. You can play as much or as little as you like – bowls is a sport that can complement your lifestyle, work or other commitments.
Our club is full of people who enjoy both the sport of bowls and the social side of the game. Playing bowls is a great way to relax, make new friends and feel part of a team.
The clubhouse and bar offer the opportunity to meet people and have a chat over a beer, glass of wine or cup of tea, whatever your preference! We also have a programme of fun social events throughout the year – including race nights, a bingo and pizza evening, summer BBQs and Hawaiian night.
